EDIT: Refunding
EDIT: The artist contacted me today and said they will refund half the price, as well as send me the SAI file due to the fact that their health issues are becoming bad (apparently they are doing this for a lot of their other commissions). I've agreed to this and I'm happy I didn't have to take this further :) Thanks for all the great comments!! ------------------- FOR THE PROTECTION OF THE ARTIST, FOR NOW, I WILL JUST SAY "ARTIST" BECAUSE I'M NOT SURE IF I WANT TO POST A BEWARE OR NOT. Okay...so there is an artist that I've adored since I started getting into online art-looking...and said artist recently came back after years of absence, so of course I started stalking that artist! I have been struggling with a ref sketch I did of my fursona and had been watching the artist on a livestream type site. I asked for their opinion of anatomy and coloring, because I have always been IN LOVE with the coloring style of this artist. That being said, the artist offered to color and touch up on the anatomy of my picture for $15!! It was like a dream come freaking true!! And maybe I should have realized that from the start. So, knowing that 1) it is a $15 commission 2) the artist has a lot of health issues 3) I know it takes awhile to do great art in general 4) did I mention it was only a $15 commission? I knew it would take awhile. But the thing is, I paid the artist on Dec 9, 2012. We kept up for awhile, I'd go and watch the artist draw when I was able, and all was honkey dory. To make things easier, I was even willing to change my character's hair design because, despite the fact that I wanted it a certain way, I had waited so long on things to progress (and they progressed quickly at first, then came to a screeching hault) that I was willing to do whatever just to get things moving along. Even though I really really didn't want to have to change my character design for a commission I paid for ($15 or not). So whatever, we decided on that....then apparently the artist flattened the image??? I get that. I understand things happen. But the artist did that 3 months ago...and I haven't seen any progress since. I haven't heard from the artist in 3 months. And I've sent numerous messages on both the artist's FA and tumblr. And I know they've been on it since then...but still no answer. All I want is a screen shot, or to be told they can't do it and refund. But how long do I need to wait before getting more upset?? I've been very patient, understanding, and tried not to be too pushy. But today I finally asked if there would be any update, or if we should talk about a refund. I REALLY REALLY REALLY don't want to have to post an artist-beware, but I saw on their FA where someone else had noted that their lack of correspondence was becoming a worry. I love this artist, and I always have, and I'd hate to be the one to be targeted for calling them out...but when do I say enough is enough? |

Advice needed.
I'm not going to name any names because the person I'm dealing with hasn't really done anything *wrong* necessarily but has been causing me such stress and grief that I could really use some advice about how to continue to deal with this situation. I took a commission from a customer about a month ago and since then I have gotten several notes a day from them. Usually these notes are repetitive -- asking if I will be able to make a certain feature on their plush that is CLEARLY noticeable in their reference, asking me repetitively if their project has been started or finished yet when I have told them several times that they can expect it in the beginning of June (and linked them to the page where I list my projects and their current status, which I update several times a day and is extremely reliable). It's like it doesn't matter at all what I say to them -- they just continue to ask me the same kind of unnecessary questions and eat up a lot of my day responding to their notes. I am starting to get to my wit's end. In the beginning, right after they paid off their commission (because it started immediately), this behavior actually had me insist on offering them a refund and I basically relented because they begged me to continue to agree to their project. It's getting close now to when I have their slot scheduled to be started and I try to be dependable about showing customers their project in several stages if it is quite large or complicated so that they can correct something if they notice it before it gets too far in (basically like a sketch stage or two before a 2D artist would start painting). I am DREADING this process with this customer and really desperately want to just refund them at this point because I am beginning to feel harassed. I am worried though that throwing my hands up at this point and sending their money back will get me bad press or something. I also generally have no problem actually MAKING their plush and would prefer to just be able to do my work without being harassed. I've honestly never been in this position before with someone and I'm unsure of what the most diplomatic way to deal with it is. I have been firm with them before and told them out-right that they were stressing me out, etc. and it hasn't made a difference at all except occasionally now at the beginning of their notes they will say something like, "I'm sorry if this is annoying..." or, "Tell me if I'm annoying you..." which just stresses me out more. |

Due to the excessive posting on Cashoo's page by both involved and outside parties, we A_B mods have had to give several warnings. One of these was a warning to someone who was a customer who made an A_B post about Cashoo. This was an exceedingly rare and unique circumstance. We mods generally encourage contact between parties in a transaction. However, if a comment is harassing, or if it expressly mentions Artists_Beware, that is a problem. LiveJournal has certain rules about use of its website for harassment. While we mods try very hard to prevent others from using Artists_Beware as a means for harassment, some people still see our community as such. Therefore, we want to keep mention of our site on beware-ees' pages minimal-to-none. This includes comments made by someone who actually has legitimate business with that person. We understand that we have not made the above clear in our rules, and will endeavor to correct that shortly. We have not given any "official" warnings just for mentioning Artist_Beware. And as always, harassment of any kind by anyone (whether you have business with this person or not) is not allowed. Period. Don't do it. Interpretation of what is harassment is up to the moderators. A Tasty Experiment
While I look to cook, I’m not the greatest at it and I really only have a few dishes that I make really well (like my spaghetti sauce, it’s epic) so sometimes I like to try something new and different. Of course it’s also the sort of thing that has to wait for inspiration, but it does happen. In this case while poking around on the internet last Tuesday I came across a number of people talking about making Beef Wellington. Check the link for some pictures because it looks really good. So I decided I was going to give it a try. It was bit more complex then what I usually make, but sometimes you got to try something crazy. So, after poking around I found what looked like a good recipe for it, and last night gave it a go. There were some minor issues, the store didn’t have the right ham and no English Mustard. I was able to find substitutes, normal Yellow Mustard instead (not quite as spicy sadly) and a nice thin sliced ham with no water added. The other issue that came up was the fact that I don’t have a food processor… yeah don’t finally chopping the mushrooms without one unless you have an hour to kill. Still, everything did come together and the net result looked pretty much like the pictures, not to mention tasted pretty damn good. If anything I might put it in for about 10 more minutes to make it a little less pink, but that’s just how I like it. Now that I’ve made this once, I feel like it wouldn’t be as much of a challenge to make it again (though with a food processor). I also would like to keep try making new and different things like this, it was fun and made for a somewhat fancy home cooked meal. |

Who owns this product?
The Short of It: A gives money to B so that B can buy a product from C. This product is to benefit A. Does A have a right to tell C not to give said product to B? The Long of It: I am party C in the above situation. A and B were doing a trade for two fursuits and B contacted me for two fursuit head bases. A gave B the money which they then passed on to me. The trade between A and B had multiple deadlines that were missed and when A inquired they were told that the delays were due to me. I was told by B that I had plenty of time to complete the bases as they had not started on the suits which was never told to A. As the buck was passed on to me A started getting frustrated. I was eventually called by them and we shared information: they had never seen any progress on their suits and B had not completed multiple projects for other clients. After the phone call A told me to hold onto their completed bases and fur them for them. Is this allowed? While it was their money that paid for the bases does the fact that it passed through a third party change who owns them? Them asking B for a refund would negate this problem but that would require more transactions. Any advice is super appreciated! Please let me know if I can clarify anything. EDIT: I was going to post this several days ago but LJ was being LJ so I had to wait. Since writing this B has blocked me from Twitter, their main mode of communication. I assume it is because of my involvement with party A. |

Scam Artist: Shizimiru/Comico - false claims
WHO: An artist who until recently was frequenting Furaffinity under the username Comico. Recently Perma-banned from site. Other Alias and locations: Skype: shizimiru Furrafinity: http://www.furaffinity.net/user/comico/WHERE: The offense took place mainly through PayPal, however Shizimiru's main form of contact and "business" was through FA. WHAT: The art in question was a $400 dollar "mature" comic piece that was commissioned by me through a different artist (name of Hashire on FA) at Shizimiru's request. We were to "share" the piece with our characters, and Shizimiru promised to pay me 200 for her half of the work "when she had the money." WHEN: Auction for said comic was posted approx. March 28. Winning bid was placed on the 29th by Shizi. Advise really needed
For almost a year I have been waiting on a customer who owe me some money for 5 commissions. Over a week ago I found out through a friend that she had a new account. Notice a journal that says she have been sendt to hospital and as I was about to leave her a message wishing her best of luck but I get the message that I am blocked. It felt like being hit in the face. She have uploaded some of the commissions I did for her(even one she have yet to pay for), but without credits or link back to the original. so I had to send a note to her friend who is also my friend to be able to contact her. Got a message back from our friend and he told me she couldn't use her paypal becouse her family wont let her. He offered to pay for her, I had so say no to that. The last note I got from her before she disappered it was her fiance had taken her money and was the reason she couldn't pay me right away back then. This was the note:  I replied I could wait, and I am still waiting. Should I wait and see if she messages me before I post a beware on her? |

Most especially galling was when he lied to me about not having been streaming, when he didn't even turn off Livestream's stream recording feature. Arguably he still owes me twenty dollars for the second refund as I've received no work and paid eighty dollars instead of just the sixty, but since I am now blocked on his FA page and he doesn't respond to Skype messages, this is what it's come to. While I agree he didn't specify a working order, I find his attitude and penchant for working with more recent clients after leaving others waiting for several months to be very off-putting, particularly when he wants payment up front. As for why I waited this long, it wouldn't be the first time I got a refund in parts, and it was while trying to contact him that I found out I was blocked. No, I'm not proud that I threatened to AB him the second time I mentioned a deadline. I was pissed, but no excuse on my end for losing my cool. I did wrong, and I know.
